Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is the objective measurement of a person's ability to perform functional work activities. Functional testing provides an objective measure that is useful in determining work placement, accommodation, treatment requirements, case management, or disability eligibility for a worker. The physician may determine a diagnosis and estimate work "restrictions". However, in an evidence-based medical model, measurements are preferable to estimates. Thus, when the ability to work is limited or disability is uncertain, functional capacity testing is beneficial in providing an objective determination.

Disability Evaluations

Disability ratings are used to translate objective clinical findings into a percentage of the whole person. Typically, this number is used to measure the residual deficit, or loss a patient has from a medical problem; once that problem is at maximal medical improvement. This number is then used to help establish a monetary award to an injured party.

Our reports include an evaluation of medically defined and professionally appropriate measurements of impairment that include, but are not limited to: loss of range of motion, loss of strength, measured atrophy of tissue mass consistent with the injury, and any other measurements that establish the nature and extent of the impairment.

Our raters are certified by the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians. AADEP is the premier organization that produces educational courses and products on such issues as the proper techniques to perform impairment ratings based on the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment. AADEP provides a mechanism for national certification of competence in disability management and impairment evaluation.

Modalities

There are a variety of treatment modalities that can help provide pain relief, and heal injuries including hot packs, cold packs, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound.

Physical Therapy

After a comprehensive evaluation, we will design a customized treatment program that will help the patient return to a normal lifestyle in a safe and timely manner. Physical therapy treatment at our clinic may include:

Work Rehabilitation

Work conditioning is an individualized, work-oriented program designed to restore strength, endurance, movement and flexibility. The objective of a work-conditioning program is to restore function to enable a safe return to work. Work conditioning provides a transition between acute care and return to work while addressing motivation, safety and physical tolerances as well as worker behaviors.

Therapeutic Massage

Massage is the manipulating of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using various techniques, to enhance function, aid in the healing process, and promote relaxation and well-being.

Massage involves working and acting on the body with pressure. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, skin, joints, or other connective tissue. Medical research has shown that the benefits of massage include pain relief.
